Fire Evacuation Drills in the Library

As part of our commitment to keeping library users safe, we’re obliged to make sure that all of our staff are trained in what to do in the event of a fire.  As part of this commitment, our staff have undergone training in fire safety which we’re now following up with four fire evacuation drills each year.

in each academic year, we’ll be holding two planned evacuations, where we notify staff and students of the date/time, followed by two unplanned evacuations, without prior notification.  Rest assured that we’ll do our best to minimise disruption to library users by scheduling the evacuation drills at quieter times, such as mid-semester reading week or during vacation periods.

Our 2018/19 fire evacuation drills will be held on :

Planned:
October 2018 – Thursday 25th, 2 pm (during mid-semester reading week)
December 2018 – Thursday 20th, 9:30 am (During vacation)

Unplanned:
February 2019 – unspecified date, during the week commencing 18th (during the mid-semester reading week)
June 2019 – unspecified date, during the week commencing 10th (during vacation)

During these live fire evacuation drills, library users will be required to vacate the building as directed by library staff.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but hope that you understand the need for us to ensure our staff are trained and well-practiced in fire evacuation in order to keep you safe. Thank you for your cooperation
