Scopus to cease support for Internet Explorer 8

Effective from 1st October 1 2015, Scopus* will no longer support Internet Explorer 8 (IE8). This is to allow Scopus to focus support on newer, officially-supported IE browser versions.

If you are still using Internet Explorer 8 on your office PC you can upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 by installing it from Run Advertised Programs.

  • On your computer click on the Start button in the bottom left hand corner
  • Select Control Panel
  • Choose Run Advertised Programmes
  • Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 11a – install
  • Click Run

Once you have upgraded to Internet Explorer 11, you may want to consider upgrading your office PC to Office 2013 – see: https://www.stir.ac.uk/is/staff/it/software/microsoftoffice/ and note the FAQs on that page.

*Scopus is an excellent multidisciplinary library database primarily useful for finding journal articles. It is the largest international abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources. Scopus searches more than 45.5 million records from 5,000 different publishers covering many different subjects.

You can access Scopus from the Library’s A-Z list:

  • Login the University Portal
  • Select the Resources Tab
  • Select A-Z list of online resources
  • Choose S, then Scopus.

For help on searching Scopus for documents, cited reference searching, browsing and analysing journals, etc. see the videos at: http://help.scopus.com/flare/Content/tutorials/sc_menu.html.
