As Wellbeing Week approaches and we take part in the National Year of Reading, we’re celebrating the many ways reading can support your wellbeing. Reading isn’t just for study — it can offer comfort, inspiration, a sense of calm, and a much-needed break from the daily busyness of university life.
Wellbeing Reading List & Book Display
We’ve put together a Wellbeing Reading List packed with books chosen to lift your spirits, spark curiosity, and support your mental and emotional wellbeing. From mood-boosting fiction to thoughtful non-fiction picks, there’s something for every reader.
Visit the book display at the library entrance during Wellbeing Week to browse in person and find your next great read – whether it’s a familiar favourite or something completely new.
Book Swap in the Library Wellbeing Space
Take part in our book swap located in the Library Wellbeing Space on level 2. It’s a simple and sociable way to share books you love and discover new ones – bring a book and take a book. A lovely reminder that stories are even better when they’re passed on.
Support Your Local Library
The National Year of Reading is also a great moment to celebrate the brilliant public libraries on our doorstep. Local libraries offer welcoming community spaces, expert staff recommendations, free access to books, e-books and audiobooks, study areas, and events – all designed to make reading accessible to everyone.
If you’re not already a member, why not sign up for a Stirling Libraries card? It’s free, easy to join, and opens up an even wider world of reading beyond the University collections. Whether you’re after the latest bestseller, exploring a new genre, or looking for digital titles to enjoy on the go, your local library has you covered.

Author Conversation at Central Library: Tom Newlands, Elspeth Wilson & Natalie Jayne Clark
Why not come along to Central Library on Saturday 28 February from 2–3pm to hear from three fantastic neurodiverse writers: Tom Newlands, Elspeth Wilson and Natalie Jayne Clark. They’ll be chatting about their debut books, creativity and their paths to publication – an inspiring reminder of how stories can connect us, open up new perspectives and support our wellbeing.
Entry is free but booking is essential via Central Library (01786 237760 or centrallibrary@stirling.gov.uk), and Waterstones Stirling will have books available to buy on the day (cash only).
It’s also the perfect opportunity to discover everything your local Stirling library membership can offer, from author events to spaces and collections that help you build reading into your everyday life.

National Year of Reading – If you’re into it, read into it
Everyone knows reading expands worlds, sharpens minds, and fuels creativity. But fewer of us are making time for it.
It’s time for the nation to Go All In.
The National Year of Reading encourages everyone to enjoy and benefit from reading in all its forms. Whether you prefer novels, poetry, graphic novels, audiobooks or short essays, reading can help reduce stress, build empathy, and support your wellbeing throughout the year.
We hope this Wellbeing Week gives you the space to explore reading in new ways and to make time for it as part of your own wellbeing routine.
