European Cybersecurity month 2019

The 2019 campaign focuses on different themes addressing the need for behavioural change and identifying opportunities to help you to recognise the risks of new technologies.

Cyber hygiene is a reference to the practices and steps that use of computers and other devices take to maintain system health and improve online security.  Much like physical hygiene, cyber hygiene is regularly conducted to ward off natural deterioration and common threats.

Having a routine cyber hygiene procedure in place for your computers and software is beneficial for two distinct reasons – maintenance and security.

Security is probably the most important reason to have a cyber hygiene routine.  Hackers, identity thieves, viruses and malware are all part of the hostile threat landscape.  It is incredibly difficult to predict threats, but if you prepare by having a sound cyber hygiene routine you have more of a chance of preventing them.
