Freshers Week in IS

As always IS staff were heavily involved in making Freshers Week a fun and informative start to semester for our students. We contributed to several events / services to help welcome our new students onto campus. Here are a few of the ways we were out and about:

Welcome Desk in the Lochside Marquee
This year in the absence of the Atrium space, the Welcome Desk was relocated to the Lochside Marquee on the Haldane’s lawn. Our team of Library staff and students did a great job in helping new students get their bearings and with frequent questions such as timetabling, events timetables, general university questions. Over the few days we were in the Marquee, the team answered over 1000 questions.

Silent Disco!!!!!
This was a new initiative for this year to help new students find their way around the Library and Cottrell labs/study spaces. We brought in a professional Silent Disco company to help and managed to boogie round the route 6 times over 3 days. In total we danced over 100 of you around campus!

Busy times at the Information Centre
The first week of the autumn semester is always a record breaker in terms of number of enquiries answered by the Library and IT teams at the Information Centre in the Library. This year our staff handled over 3000 enquiries, of which a whopping 2797 (that’s 91%) were answered at first contact.

we answered 91% of your questions at first contact

Wi-Fi Wizarding!
Our team of Wi-Fi wizards were on hand to magically connect your devices to eduroam. The team helped 450 of you during the first few days of semester. According to our Happy or Not device, 94% of you were happy or very happy with the service received.

Library tours and Induction sessions
As always we ran library tours regularly during the first week and took over 270 of you around the Library.

We also ran our ‘Essential Guide to Library & IT’ sessions several times during the first week with approx 220 of you attending those.

BIG THANKYOU!
We wouldn’t be able to offer all of these different services without our very dedicated and hard working team of IS staff. Thanks also to all of those who are behind the scenes in IS making sure that our network and core services are available throughout this critical period for new students.

Thanks also to the many who attended, danced, listened, laughed with us over the Freshers period…

A warm welcome to Stirling from all of us in IS and we hope to get to know many more of you over the years to come 🙂
