Can we get free software for studying?

We Did

We already have a lot of FREE software that students can download onto their own devices. (Woo Hoo, there is actually a lot of FREE software 🙂 )

Here is a list of the software that you can get for FREE from us with instructions on how to get each of them. ( have I mentioned the word FREE enough 🙂 )

Office 365
Get the full Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) free of charge while you are studying/working at the University.

Students You can download Microsoft software from within your student email account – go to http://office365.stir.ac.uk and check in the Settings menu to find software for download.

Staff and Postgraduate Research Students – You can download from https://portal.office.com
(Please note that the downloaded software will require regular authentication against your university account to ensure you are still associated with the University).

SPSS
SPSS is statistical analysis software and is available to all students and staff at the University. To install this on your own device you will need to fill in this UniDesk form, the Information Centre will get in touch to provide the code and software links.

AMOS
AMOS is a statistical software and it stands for analysis of moment structures. To Download AMOS on your own device you will need to fill in this UniDesk form, and choose the SPSS AMOS option. The Information Centre will then get in touch to provide the code and software links.

ESRI ArcGIS
ESRI ArcGIS describes itself as “The Mapping & Analytics Platform – ArcGIS provides contextual tools for mapping and spatial reasoning so you can explore data and share location-based insights.   ArcGIS creates deeper understanding, allowing you to quickly see where things are happening and how information is connected”

You can download the software onto your own device. To request the ArcGIS software, please fill in this UniDesk Form. The Information Centre will then contact you with instructions on how to download the software.

Minitab
Minitab is a statistical analysis package which is available to staff and students at the University through our site licence.

You can install this on your own personal PC or Mac.

NVIVO
NVivo is software that supports qualitative and mixed methods research. It’s designed to help you organize, analyze and find insights in unstructured, or qualitative data like interviews, open-ended survey responses, articles, social media and web content.

Mindgenius
Mindgenius helps you capture and prioritise ideas, projects and task lists so you are in control.

You can install Mindgenius on privately own windows laptops. here is a link to the instructions.

Online Surveys
Online Surveys (not strictly something you download, but it is FREE) We get a lot of students and staff asking if we have any online survey software, or asking if we have a subscription to surveymonkey. The University subscribes to Online surveys (hosted by JISC) If you would like to request and online surveys account please fill in this UniDesk form and the Information Centre will get in touch with your new account details.
