What’s happening in the Library over the summer.

Over the summer there will be a few exciting changes in the Library.  To allow for this the seminar room will be unavailable for most of the summer.

Firstly we have invested in brand new self-issue machines, which we will be installing over the summer.  With these machines, you will be able to place your stack of books onto the machine and all of your books will be issued at the same time.  You will also be able to return your books in a stack, much easier than it is currently.  You will also be able to renew your books and view your library account.

Our library Maker Space has been so successful in its first year, that it’s growing! The Maker Space will be Moving into the Current Seminar room on level 2 of the library.  As a result of this change, we’re relocating the dual monitor screen PCs to a new dual monitor lab on level 4.  We’re also creating 12 additional study spaces on level 4.

We’re also investing in some exciting new kit for our larger Maker Space.  We’ve added a new Ultimaker 3 to our current complement of 3D printing facilities, and we’ve taken delivery of a Glowforge laser cutter, funded by the Stirling Fund, which we are super excited about.  The Glowforge won’t be up and running straight away however, as we need an air filter to run it, which is due later in the summer.  In the meantime, if you want to find out what we are excited about have a look at the clip below.

We will keep you updated with our progress with all of these great developments over the summer, and we’ll be sure to share photos of our first creations with the new Glowforge and the Ultimaker 3D printer.
