Are you looking to learn more about RefWorks? Do you need guidance on undertaking a systematic review? Do you want to improve your knowledge of data management or tools for collaborative working? Information Services are running a series of workshops from June to August aimed at our research community. All workshops are free to attend and take place from 12:30 – 1:30, location available in the booking forms. Hot and cold drinks will be provided.
17th June – Using Stirling’s Research Management System (RMS) to help comply with open access requirements. Book online (staff only).
Effective 1 April 2016 all journal articles must be deposited in an online repository within 3 months of acceptance in order to be returnable for the next REF. RMS will be the way to comply with this new policy. This Research Bites session will cover how to quickly and painlessly upload your author’s accepted manuscript to STORRE via RMS plus how to use the new Open Access fields in RMS. Staff only.

Collaborate allows a meeting or teaching session to take place online, with audio, video and a working whiteboard area which can be used to share slides, work collaboratively on documents or conduct a web tour. The session will cover the equipment needed to run a Blackboard Collaborate session, how to set a session up, get started and some tips and tricks on its use. All research students and staff welcome.

15th July – Search techniques to support systematic reviews.

Aimed at researchers in health and social sciences, the session will cover developing a search strategy, saving and recording searches and sources of further help. Limited to staff and research students from the Schools of Health Sciences and Applied Social Sciences.
22nd July – Advanced Web of Science. Book online (staff). Book online (RPGs)
This workshop will explore some of the less well known features of the Web of Science database. It will cover: cited reference searching and setting up citation alerts, finding all indexed publications by a particular author (harder than you would imagine if you are searching for a common name!), how to create a citation report to measure publications and citations per year and a H-index, as well as how to create a citation map. Familiarity with Web of Science is expected. All research students and staff welcome.

As a researcher did you know that you may have to make your research data open to all. So how do you go about doing this? Jonathan Rans, from the Digital Curation Centre, will offer an introductory session on what research data management (RDM) is, to help you understand that RDM is part of good research and how you will be able to fulfil funder and University requirements for making research data accessible. All research students and staff welcome.
