Changes to EBSCO databases from 14th July

EBSCO is introducing an updated interface for its platform from 14th July 2026

This will be available for several of the Library’s subscribed databases, including:

  • APA PsycInfo
  • Business Source Complete
  • CINAHL
  • Communication Source
  • Education Research Complete
  • ERIC
  • Historical Abstracts
  • MEDLINE
  • MLA International Bibliography
  • Political Science Complete
  • SocINDEX
  • SPORTDiscus

Developed in response to user feedback, the new interface is designed to make it easier to search, refine results, and save or share content.

From 14th July you’ll be able to access the new interface for the databases from the links in our A-Z list of online resources or Library Subject Guides

What you need to know

Saved searches and saved articles

Any searches and articles saved in the main My Folder area will automatically move to the Dashboard in the new interface. Find out how to access your saved content.

Custom folders and subfolders

Custom folders and subfolders will not be transferred to the new platform. If you have created these, they will be available to access from 14 July until 31 July only.

To keep any content stored in custom folders, you will need to download it before 31 July and recreate your folder structure in the new interface. Find out how to download data from custom folders in the new interface

Search and publication alerts

Existing search and publication alerts will not transfer to the new platform. You’ll need to create new alerts once you’re using the updated interface.

What you’ll notice

The overall search experience will remain familiar, but you may notice a number of changes, including:

  • A clearer search results page, making it easier to identify relevant articles.
  • Some menus and tools have moved to new locations.
  • Saved articles, folders and search history are now accessed through your personal EBSCO account when you’re signed in.
  • A more responsive design for mobile phones and tablets.
  • The option to use natural language searching alongside traditional keyword searching.
  • Search filters are now accessed from a dedicated filter menu rather than being displayed permanently on the results page.

Support

Guidance on the new interface, including user guides and tutorials, is available on the EBSCO page within the Systematic Reviews LibGuidehttps://libguides.stir.ac.uk/systematicreviews/EBSCO

If you need any further support using EBSCO databases, please contact the Library.
