For many students, the Library is more than just a place to study — it’s the meeting place on campus.
It’s where group chats turn into study sessions, where ideas are shared, and where you can find a space that suits exactly how you like to work. Whether you prefer a lively, social environment or complete silence, the Library has been designed to support every study style.
To help you make the most of the space, here’s a guide to what you’ll find on each floor.
Explore the Library – Floor by Floor
Level 2 (Entrance Level) – Social Study 👥💬
Level 2 is the busiest and most social area in the Library — perfect for meeting friends and working together.
This floor is designed for collaboration, with:
- 4 group study tables where you can collaborate, share ideas, and learn together, these tables that allow you to wirelessly connect your device (laptop, phone or tablet) to share your screen with your group
- 2 LAPSAFE laptop loan cabinets (borrow for 8 hours or 4 weeks)
- Library catalogue terminals to help you find resources
- Printers for quick access
- Desks with docking monitors – use your own laptop or borrow one of ours.
- a variety of different tables, chairs and sofas
- The wellbeing space, when you need to take a break from your studies.
This is the ideal space if you want to talk through ideas, work as a team, or need a more interactive study environment.
Level 3 – Quiet Study 🤝📖
Level 3 offers a quieter atmosphere while still supporting some group work.
On this floor you’ll find:
- 2 group study rooms
- A mix of open study tables and group tables, including options where you can connect your device
- Library catalogue terminals
- Printers
- A study area with adjustable lighting is available outside the Jisc Innovation Hub, designed to support students who prefer a lower-light environment.
It’s a great choice if you want a calm space but still need the flexibility to collaborate occasionally.
Level 4 – Silent Study 🤫📚
Level 4 is dedicated to silent study — the perfect place for deep focus and concentration.
Facilities include:
- 8 group study rooms
- 2 training rooms, which can also be used for study when not in use
- A variety of desks for silent, individual study
- Printers
This is the quietest area in the Library — ideal for revision, writing, and uninterrupted study time.
A Quick Reminder 💛
We love that so many of you see the Library as a welcoming, comfortable space — somewhere that feels a bit like home.
However, we do ask that everyone keeps others in mind when using the space.
Recently, we’ve had reports of:
- Computers being unplugged so devices can be charged
- Height-adjustable desks being unplugged for the same reason
This can prevent others from using essential equipment. In particular, height-adjustable desks are designed to support accessibility — including wheelchair users — who may not be able to reach power points if these have been unplugged.
👉 Please do not unplug equipment to charge personal devices.
If something isn’t working or has been unplugged, please let a member of staff know at a service point and we’ll be happy to help.
