LGBT+ History Month: Science & Innovation

Every February, the UK comes together to celebrate LGBT+ History Month, a time dedicated to honouring the past, present, and future of LGBT+ individuals. This year, we focus on science and innovation. Science and innovation impact our daily lives, from the technology we use to developments in healthcare, as well as helping us to address global challenges such as climate change and access to clean energy.

Diverse teams are essential for developing solutions that benefit everyone, yet we often struggle to name LGBT+ scientists and innovators. The 2026 theme for LGBT+ History Month aims to highlight the contributions of LGBT+ people, both historically and today, and to raise awareness of the individuals behind them.

Reading List and Book Display

Our librarians have curated a special LGBT+ History Month reading list celebrating science and innovation, featuring books that highlight the contributions of LGBT+ individuals to scientific discovery, technological progress, and new ways of thinking. These titles explore the breakthroughs, challenges, and achievements of pioneers who have helped shape the world we live in today. You can discover more titles through LibrarySearch, and we welcome your suggestions for additional books to include in our collection.
