As the campus starts to sparkle with festive lights and winter cheer, the Library Christmas Wish Tree is back.
Each year, our Wish Tree becomes a colourful symbol of our communities hopes and wishes. Students and staff write wishes, messages, or thoughts on small tags and hang them on the tree. These wishes are varied and every message added captures the warmth and diversity of our University community.

Our Wish Tree is more than a festive decoration — it’s a space where our staff, students and visitors can join in and feel a connection to others. We are aware that this time of year can joyful for some and challenging for others, You may want to leave a message to help those who find this time of year difficult, don’t underestimate these small acts, as they can be part of the bigger picture and help to strengthen the sense of belonging that makes our University special. Adding your wish is an opportunity to be part of something shared, hopeful, and human.

What makes our Wish Tree especially meaningful is that these messages aren’t disposed of at the end of the season. Each year, all the wishes are gathered up and gifted to the University Archives. There, they become part of our social history — a snapshot of the thoughts, dreams, and experiences of our community and the world around us at this moment in time.
By writing your wish, you aren’t just taking part in a fun tradition; you’re contributing to a living historical record that future students, researchers, and archivists may one day look back on.
