Update to post below (19th Sept 2025): most links in LibrarySearch to Emerald collections are now working. The exception is that links to some journals in the ‘Emerald Backfiles’ collection are still not working. This appears to relate to cases where we have access to older volumes of a journal that has since changed name. The content is on the Emerald site but the link fails to route to the new journal page. If a link fails, it may be worth linking directly to the Emerald home page, then searching by article title. We have reported issues to the LibrarySearch provider and are waiting for updates.
There are currently issues accessing content on the Emerald Publishing website. After their recent site relaunch, that hasn’t gone as smoothly as planned:
- The option to use Emerald’s ‘Sign in via Institution’ option is not working
- Links from LibrarySearch to Emerald journals and articles are not working
While Emerald and our LibrarySearch supplier work on permanent fixes – here’s the workarounds we’ve put in place so that you can continue to access Emerald content:
1. Access Emerald via our A-Z list of online resources – and there will be no need to use Emerald’s ‘Sign in via Institution’ option
2. Use this special url to access Emerald http://ezproxy.stir.ac.uk/login?url=https://www.emerald.com – and there will be no need to use Emerald’s ‘Sign in via Institution’ option
3. When using LibrarySearch, if you find articles in Emerald Collections – instead of using the link to the collection, use the ‘Download PDF’ option:

4. When using LibrarySearch, if you find journals in Emerald Collections – use the link in the special note to get authenticated access to the site:

5. Download the LibKey Nomad browser extension – then when you are browsing the web and come across Emerald content you can use the ‘Authenticated Access’ button that will automatically pop-up:

Emerald and our LibrarySearch supplier are working to fix the underlying issues causing these problems. They hope to have fixes in place by the end of July. *Update*: there have been problems with Emerald supplying the necessary updated data. The latest information on the date this expected to be fixed is by: 4th August.
