Changes to Historic Environment Scotland web services, including SCRAN

We have just learned that several Historic Environment Scotland (HES) web services will be retired on 24th June 2025. This includes the following resources:

SCRAN

Canmore

Scotland’s Places

The good news is that content is being transferred to a new website trove.scot. The website is live now, though content is still being transferred from the legacy websites listed above.

How does this affect us?

We have added trove.scot to the A-Z list of Online Resources. We will remove SCRAN from this list on 24th June.

Please remember to search trove.scot to find the museum images, films and sounds you would have found on SCRAN. Bear in mind that the transfer of content from SCRAN to trove.scot is not scheduled to be complete until March 2026.

There may be links on reading lists to content on the HES website which has moved. These will need to be updated for the next academic year. Library staff will try to surface and correct any dead links, but it would be helpful if lecturers would also pay attention to this when updating reading lists.
