Celebrating LGBT History Month

From February 1st to 28th, join us in celebrating LGBT History Month with a vibrant display of decorations and a curated book collection from our wellbeing space. This year’s theme is “Activism and Social Change,” highlighting the significant contributions of the LGBT+ community. Explore our resources, including a dedicated reading list and a BoB (Box of Broadcasts) playlist, to deepen your understanding and appreciation of LGBT+ history.

1984 Exhibit

Don’t miss the 1984 Exhibit, “The Winston Smith Library of Victory and Truth” by artist Hans K Clausen. This temporary exhibition will be on display from January 26th to February 23rd, highlighting the enduring significance of George Orwell’s novel, 1984. The exhibit aims to celebrate human storytelling, promote creativity and curiosity, and encourage community engagement.

Join us at our exciting pop-up event where students can find out how to use the Jisc capabilities tool explore and enhance their digital capabilities. This event is designed to help you assess your current digital skills and discover the services available to upskill in the areas you need. This is especially important for final year students as you want to ensure that your are equipped with the digitals skills that you need for your future employability.

Gale Cengage will have a stall outside the library to promote Gale Primary Sources, a valuable resource for dissertation research on historical topics. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore and learn more about these essential tools for your academic work. Visit the stall on Tuesday, 11th February, 10:00 – 15:30.

Gale Primary Sources is a valuable resource for academic research, offering access to millions of pages of historical newspapers, periodicals and books. It includes collections such as British Library Newspapers, Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO), Nineteenth Century UK Periodicals and the Times Digital Archive.

Random acts of Kindness day

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a special day dedicated to spreading kindness and positivity. Celebrated on February 17th, this day encourages people to perform random acts of kindness, no matter how big or small, to make the world a better place.

This year the Random Acts of Kindness foundation are running the Kind heart project, where they are asking people to write an anonymous kind message on a paper heart and to leave this for someone to find. We will be joining this campaign, in the effort of making kindness the norm.

Library and IT Services at the University of Stirling have been actively participating in Random Acts of Kindness Day for a number of years. Along with the Kind Heart Project, this year the Library Book Fairies will be sharing their love of reading by hiding books around the library for lucky finders to keep or gift to a friend. there will also be some small gifts to celebrate this day in the library.

Wellbeing Week

Wellbeing Week will take place from February 12th to 16th, focusing on promoting mental and physical health within our community. Activities will include a book display, a wellbeing space, a reading list featuring fiction books, library blankets, a book swap, and a virtual library wellbeing space. (blog post to follow)
