With autumn fast approaching we want to share the following information around learning and teaching spaces ahead of the start of semester.
Learning and teaching spaces
Staff can view quick start guidance information and material on the learning spaces Canvas page
Learning and teaching spaces refresher training
Faculty Learning Spaces refresher sessions are being planned with Learning and Teaching Enhancement. If you would benefit from an individual or small group refresher. Or if you are a new member of teaching staff and need an introduction to our learning spaces, please get in touch with Learning and Teaching Enhancement via information.centre@stir.ac.uk.
Book a support assistant for the start of your class!
IS have a number of IT Assistants aka Wizards available to help you get your class kicked off. If you feel it would be helpful to have a Wizard present at the start of your class to help you get logged onto the teaching room system and safely into your Teams class, you can book a short Wizard appointment here.
We will then send a Wizard along to meet you at the start of your class.
Attendance monitoring information for staff
The system is part of the University of Stirling app and allows students to register their attendance at timetabled classes with a click of a button. This should be used in all timetabled classes including online and on campus lectures, seminars and other teaching activities.
To find out how to do this you can watch this video or read the FAQs
We have made a change to the home page on Learning spaces PCs. If you launch edge, the home page is now set to the University app (you may need to use your MFA method to access this). Then you should be able to easily access the code for the class. using the attendance management tile. You can also still use the app via your phone.

Canvas groups created and populated using timetable data
The way in which groups are managed and used by staff and students has changed. Group sign-up will no longer be managed within Canvas, no self-sign-up groups should be created for group activities within Canvas. Groups will be managed by Faculty Timetable Coordinators within the new system. If staff require changes to groups, please contact your Faculty Timetable Coordinator/Professional Services Team.
Staff can view student groups by module via “Student Group Overview” on the staff landing page within the timetabling system (TimeEdit). In addition, this data will be fed into your Attendance monitoring app.
When there is a choice of groups available, which require students to sign-up, students will sign-up via the new timetabling system within the registration period. The pre-enrolment portal links have been updated to suit the new process for students; as well as email communications updated for new and returning students. Canvas and portal announcements will be posted to alert students as to where to complete sign-up.
Groups will open for sign up Monday, 2 September 2024 for UG students and Monday, 16 September 2024 for PG students. Modules starting prior to Monday, 2 September 2024 will be released earlier.
Further support, and video guidance is available for students on the website.
