Be exam ready – passwords, MFA and eduroam

If you are due to sit a digital exam either remotely or on campus there are a few things you need to do in advance of your exam day to make sure the day goes smoothly and you start your exam without unnecessary added stress.

  • Make sure that you know your username and password to logon to the portal or lab computers. Sometimes this can be an issue if you rely on your device or browser remembering your details.
  • Make sure that your method of MFA is working. If you have changed your phone number, got a new phone, or you use text message as your default method then you may have issues. Sometimes your data signal may not work in University buildings, so it can’t be relied on. Please see these instructions to change your MFA method. We strongly recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  • Can you connect successfully to eduroam on your phone? If you need help with connecting to eduroam please see these instructions.

We suggest that before your first exam you check all of the above.

You can test some of these from home without coming in to campus.

Password

If you open an incognito browser window (Press Ctrl + Shift + n in both Google Chrome and Edge) and then try to logon to the portal you should firstly be able to test if your password is working. If you can’t logon you can go to the Microsoft Self-Service Password page and try to reset your password. If you are unable to do this you will need to contact the Information Centre.

Multifactor Authentication

If you have managed to remember your password and then you hit a roadblock when trying to use MFA you will need to contact the Information Centre.

We also strongly suggest that if your exam is going to be on campus you make a special trip in before your exam date and try to logon to a Lab PC and make sure that your MFA is working and that your phone is connected to eduroam. If you have any problems with these issues please visit us at the Information centre Monday to Friday between 9 and 4:30.
