Library and IT Checklist for Winter Graduation 2023

Congratulations to all of our students graduating today!

With our Winter Graduation ceremonies taking place today and tomorrow we’ve written a handy Library and IT checklist to help make your transition from student to graduate an easy one.

Email – opt-in if you want to continue to access your student email account after graduation

If you would like to continue to access your University email account after graduation, you must let us know. You can have access to email for two years after graduation if you opt-in. See our guide on how to opt-in or click on the opt-in banner on your portal homepage and follow the instructions. Please note, the direct link to access your email after graduation is http://office365.stir.ac.uk.

OneDrive

For continuing students, your OneDrive account won’t be accessible, but the data will remain until your account re-opens. For students who are not taking another course at Stirling, your access to OneDrive will cease. As such, you should save any data you wish to retain to an alternative location.

Office365 apps

You will lose access to your office apps, but there are a couple of options open to you. You can pay for a monthly/annual subscription to Office365 (please do not use your University of Stirling email address) or
you could use one of the many free cloud storage options, which also have apps included. You can also use one of the many free MS Office alternatives. For continuing students, when you are fully registered your access will be restored to the full Office365 Suite.

Sell any outstanding credit on your print/copy account to a student who is continuing

Ideally, you shouldn’t have any significant sums left in your print/copy balance but if you do, you can sell any leftover credit in your account to a student who is continuing on at the university. Please note, you cannot be refunded the £6 free allocation per academic year nor any departmentally added funds. There is a £5 minimum transfer level – we won’t transfer amounts smaller than £5. If you want to do this please email askIT@stir.ac.uk with your username and the name and username of the student you would like to transfer your remaining funds to.

RefWorks (or EndNote) – keep your references after graduation

If you use RefWorks, you can continue to access your account as an alumni but you must set this up before you lose access to your network account. Have a look at the LibGuide for instructions on what to do with your RefWorks account on graduation.

If you’re an EndNote user – see our guide on what you need to do to keep your references in EndNote Online.

If you have any questions about your IT/Library account please contact the Information Centre by email on askIT@stir.ac.uk or fill in our Ask IT Form on UniDesk.
