Stirling joins Oxford University Press Agreement: free Open Access Publishing

Stirling is joining the first year of the three year Oxford University Press ”Read and Publish” Agreement negotiated by SHEDL.

This means in return for a one-off payment by the Library, Stirling authors will have free uncapped open access publishing in OUP’s full collection of more than 400 academic journals.

The OUP collection features prestigious, highly cited and authoritative journals published in collaboration with many of the world’s most influential scholarly and professional societies. Covering six subject collections: Medicine; Life Sciences; Humanities; Social Sciences; Mathematics & Physical Sciences and Law.

Through the “Read” part of the deal Stirling students and staff will have access to the full journal collection from the latest content back to 1996.

Open access publication is free at the point of publication to the author – the costs have already been covered by the subscription fee paid by the library. The only requirements are that the Stirling author is the corresponding author and the articles are original research articles or review articles.

It’s important to note that when publishing via this agreement, at the point where the publisher’s workflow asks for payment, authors should select ‘UK Institutions (Jisc affiliated)’ when asked for their institution details – see OUP’s guide for authors for details.

There is no need to apply to Stirling’s APC Fund or inform the Library when publishing in these journals as the corresponding author.

The Agreement covers the period from 1st January 2021 and runs until 31st December 2021.

The University is a member of a number of publisher agreements supporting the move to greater open access for our research, in cost efficient ways – see our Publisher Memberships and Transformative Arrangements page.
