BoB is an Archive of TV and radio broadcasts dating back to the 1990s from BBC channels, ITV, Channel 4, Film 4 and more, as well as 10 foreign language channels (Italian, French and German). You are required to register with your name and University email address.
You can access BoB via that portal (Resources tab – A-Z box of broadcasts)
You do not need a TV licence to only access BoB. However, if you watch BBC iPlayer or any live TV or radio as well as BoB, then you would need the licence.
You can use the search option to look for particular movies or programs or what I find easiest is to search for public playlists. If you search for the genre of film that you would like to watch and then see what your search brings up. For example, I searched for “Chick Flicks” and the first public playlist had the following movies;
- Bridget Jones diary
- Calendar girls
- The devil wears Prada
- Clueless
- She’s all that
- 10 things I hate about you
- Pretty woman
- Steel magnolias
- Sixteen candles
- Pretty in Pink
- Princess diaries
- Bridesmaids
- Hairspray.
You can just pick your favourite genre and see what you can find. All for free. I also found playlists for the following genres;
- Nordic Noir
- Horror
- Musicals
- Movie classics
- Hitchcock
- Tarantino
Hopefully, this gives you some inspiration. Why don’t you log in to see what you can find to watch? You may find that you will have free access to some classic movies that other providers don’t give access to.
