On Friday 27th March, we deployed a daily auto start up command to all on-campus Hewlett Packard PCs. This means that if your PC was switched on today, it will now receive an auto start up command every morning at 8:30am. This should safeguard against accidental shut downs (we have seen a number of these since everyone started working over remote desktop.
See our FAQs blog post for more info about safely shutting down a remote desktop connection.
We are working to get devices already powered off by Friday 27th March switched back on but this will involve a member of staff going out to the uni so we can’t yet confirm when this will be done.
Remember – this only applies to HP desktops – any other types of PC e.g. Dell, will not benefit from this functionality.
