New Outlook feature – online archives

As part of the New technologies Project, Information Services is introducing an online archive service for email which will provide up to 100GB of archive storage for each member of staff. This enhancement will provide an improved service for archiving your Outlook content, and deliver the ability to access your archived information from any location using Outlook Web App via any browser.  Your Online Archive will be activated on Tuesday 15 December and will appear in the Folder Pane in Outlook alongside your other mailboxes.  The Online Archive will replace the use of PST files for archiving mail content.

The first time you open Outlook after we have activated the Online Archive for your account you will have to enter your password to enable Outlook to open the Archive for you.  You should tick the box on the password dialog that says “Remember my credentials” so that you don’t have to enter your password every time you open Outlook.

Click this link for further information on what to do when prompted to setup your archive and how to transfer your existing archived material to this location.

Anybody who is using PST files located on network shares i.e. H: and S: drives will be contacted separately with instructions on how to transfer these to their Online Archive.

We strongly recommend that you transfer the contents of any PST archives that you are currently using into your new online archive.
