RMS: new mandatory questions for Open Access compliance

From the afternoon of 18th February 2015 new mandatory questions will be added to the Research Management System (RMS) relating to Open Access publishing.

Background

On 1st April 2013 the Research Councils UK (RCUK) introduced a new Open Access and Article Processing Charge Policy for publications resulting from their funded projects.

The Policy requires not only that RCUK funded publications be made Open Access, but also that the University reports on our compliance with this policy.

RCUK requires that the following funded publications be published Open Access:

  • journal articles
  • systematic reviews
  • formally published conference papers

In order to be able to report our compliance, new questions will be added to the forms for these publication types in the Research Management System (RMS) on 18th February 2015. In addition, a new publication type of ‘Conference Paper (in Formal Publication)’ has been designed.
