Great news for anyone researching, teaching or studying health. The Library now provides access to three new resources: OVID Medline, the Joanna Briggs Institute and OVID Nursing.
OVID Medline is a large index to medical, nursing, biological and allied health literature. References are included from over 5000 journals and it is updated weekly. It is produced by the National Library of Medicine in America. The OVID platform offers researchers a host of sophisticated search options. This interface is useful for anyone undertaking a systematic review. Results can exported to RefWorks and other reference management software and WebBridge is available to check for full text availability.
The Joanna Briggs Institute is a search tool for anyone researching evidence based practice in healthcare. It contains over 3000 records, all of which are full text. There are several different types of publications contained within this database including: Evidence based recommended practice – these describe the best practice and equipment required for a particular procedure or intervention, e.g.taking blood. Evidence summaries – short documents which present the existing evidence on a particular intervention or treatment. Systematic Reviews – comprehensive reviews and analysis of the literature to date on a particular topic. The reviews in the Joanna Briggs Institute are unique and not available anywhere else. Results from this database can be exported to RefWorks and other reference management software.
OVID Nursing is a database which searches a subset of Medline (relevant to nursing) and several nursing journals, including the Nursing Times. Coverage is from 1946 to present. Results can be exported to RefWorks and other reference management software.
