Flood in library studies area

On Friday evening at 5pm it was discovered that there was a major leak from an air conditioning unit in the studies area on Level 2 of the Library.  IS working in partnership with Estates and Campus Services managed to stem the flood waters and began the
clean up operation as we put our disaster recovery plan into action.  Our document recovery experts, Harwell, were on site within 24 hours with industrial cleaners and dehumidifiers were in place by Saturday evening. Harwell also took away books that had been
badly water damaged to be conserved properly.  The area of stock affected is long loans from MZE to Z.

As of Monday 6th December, the stock in this area remains unavailable as the drying process continues, but damage is not as bad as first feared. 18 shelves of books in the Q section have had to be removed for further conservation
and repair.

Our thanks go to all the staff within IS and Estates who helped us handle the situation and prevented more serious damage to buildings and material.
