At Library and IT Services, we love listening to our students and staff — and taking meaningful action when possible. Over the past year, you’ve shared your experiences, frustrations and ideas, and we’ve been busy turning that feedback into real improvements. Here’s a look at what you told us, and what we did in response.
You said: “Make the Canvas module pages layout easier to navigate.”
We did:
We developed a brand-new Canvas baseline template, now used across all faculties. This standardised structure makes modules clearer, more consistent, and easier to navigate — so you can spend less time searching and more time learning. We also have 2 new modules to help navigate Canvas. Canvas support for students and Canvas support for staff, which are available from your Canvas Dashboard.
You said: “Can we have more long-term laptop loans?”
We did:
We updated our laptop loan service by converting the atrium cabinet to 4-week loans. The remaining cabinets now offer 8-hour loans instead of the previous 4-hour limit, giving you more flexibility depending on your needs. You can also use the docking monitors on Level 2 with your own laptop, or one you borrowed from us. This gives you dual screen functionality.
You said: “I’m a PGR student and attendance monitoring doesn’t work for me.”
We did:
We resolved this issue so that PGR students can now record attendance — either for sessions they attend or for classes they teach. This ensures the system works for the full range of roles PGR students.
You said: “There’s digital skills information all over the place — it’s hard to find.”
“Ask each student to test their competence with digital skills and give them a tailored learning path.”
We did:
We refreshed and expanded the Digital Skills Hub, bringing together resources from across the University so everything is now in one easy-to-find place.
Students and staff can also use the Jisc Discovery Tool to assess their digital capabilities and receive a personalised list of resources to support their development.
You said: “It would be good to know how things work before I arrive.”
We did:
Along with Student Learning Services, we created a pre-arrival programme of online events covering key aspects of starting at Stirling. This includes an introduction to Library and IT services and a demonstration of Canvas, helping new students feel confident and prepared before they even set foot on campus.
You said: “There are so many resources available from the library — I don’t know where to start.”
We did:
We offer a range of support to help you make the most of our resources, including:
- Stirling Essentials online sessions
- Library Subject Guides tailored to your discipline
- Friendly, expert staff available for 1:1 support. You can visit us in the library or you can ask the library or ask IT via UniDesk on the left hand navigation on your portal.
Whether you’re tackling your first assignment or you are doing specialist research for your dissertation or your Postgraduate thesis, we’re here to help you look for what you need.
Thank you for your feedback
Your ideas drive our improvements. Please keep sharing your experiences with us — together, we can continue to make Library and IT Services even better for everyone at Stirling.
