Your voice, your tech, your future – technology

Every year, the University of Stirling invites students to take part in the Jisc Digital Experience Insights Survey – a national initiative designed to understand how you use technology in your studies, how it supports your learning, and what digital skills you’re developing along the way.

This post will concentrate on the feedback we received about technology, and thanks to your survey responses we made some of these changes to improve your experience.

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering an exceptional digital experience for students, we’re proud to share a series of recent upgrades and service improvements across campus computing facilities.

Windows 11 upgrade completed ahead of schedule

All student Windows 10 computers on campus have now been successfully upgraded to Windows 11, well ahead of Microsoft’s end-of-support deadline. This proactive move ensures students benefit from enhanced performance, security, and compatibility with the latest applications and learning tools.

Dual monitor docking stations in the library

To support modern study habits and to enable multitasking, we’ve installed docking monitors on Level 2 of the Library. Students can now connect their own devices or borrow one of ours and enjoy the benefits of a dual monitor setup, ideal for research, data input and writing.

Expanded Laptop access and smarter loan options

We’ve increased the number of laptops available in our Lapsafe cabinets, responding directly to student feedback. Alongside this, we’ve revised our loan periods to offer greater flexibility – whether students need a device for a few hours or several days or 4 weeks, our system now better supports varied study needs. Accessibility First: Inclusive cabinet design

We’ve introduced accessible access points on our Lapsafe cabinets to ensure wheelchair users can easily retrieve and return devices. This upgrade reflects our commitment to inclusive design and equitable access to technology for all students.

Computing Science Labs: A fresh look

University of Stirling Computing Science labs have undergone an upgrade, featuring improved hardware. These enhancements aim to better serve students in technical disciplines and standardise the equipment in our learning spaces.
