Information Services are excited to announce a new accessibility feature that’s now live on all Lapsafe cabinets across campus: easy access bays. These bays are designed to make laptop borrowing more inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.
How It Works
If you need a laptop and prefer an accessible bay, simply tap the toggle button in the top right-hand corner of the Lapsafe screen. If an accessible bay is available, the system will automatically issue a laptop from one of these specially configured bays.

This feature is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the student experience and ensuring that our services are accessible to all students.
What If No Accessible Bays Are Available?
Don’t worry—if the accessible bays are all out on loan or not fully charged, you can still get a laptop. Just pop in to see the amazing folks at the Library Lending Desk, where a member of staff will be happy to issue you with a laptop.
Why This Matters
The introduction of easy access bays follows feedback from our students and staff about the need for Information Services to provide more inclusive technology services. Whether you’re managing mobility challenges or simply prefer a lower-reach option, these bays are here to help.
We want to continue enhancing our campus facilities to better serve our diverse University community. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can email us information.centre@stir.ac.uk or you can fill in a suggestion card and pop it in the suggestion box on Level 2 of the library.
