Reflections and Advice from Staff and Students
Starting university can be exciting, but can leave new students feeling nervous, lonely and fearful of new beginnings. But what if you could rewind the clock and give your younger self a few words of wisdom? We used a graffiti wall in the library for the first month of semester and we asked staff and students across the University of Stirling to reflect on their own journeys and share the advice they’d give themselves if they were first-year students again.

Below is are some of the advice left for our new first years, however a lot of them are applicable to all of us whatever age or stage we are in our lives.
These reflections remind us that university is not just about academics—it’s about learning how to learn, building resilience, and finding your place in a vibrant community and finding your place in the world.
