Users have reported a performance issue that EndNote and linked Word documents may freeze for several minutes. This is resolved by upgrading from EndNote X9, EN20 and EN21 to EndNote 21.5. Additionally, Clarivate (the software supplier) advise that EndNote X9 and earlier versions are no longer supported
See guidance at the Upgrading EndNote help page. Before starting your upgrade it is important to:
- Ensure your existing Library is on the hard drive of your computer and not synchronised to OneDrive. On University devices this should be C:\{username} e.g. C:\MSM4
- Take a backup of your EndNote Library and store this on OneDrive in case needed later [EndNote > File > Compressed Library (.enlx)].
- Take a copy/backup of any Word documents you are actively working on.
- Uninstall EndNote (i.e. remove it via CloudPaging Player).
Note that EndNote 21.5 contains fewer referencing styles than earlier versions but you can easily download additional styles from the EndNote Web site.
