At Information Services, we believe in the power of student feedback to drive meaningful change. Our “You Said, We Did” campaign is a testament to our commitment to listening to our students and making improvements that enhance their overall student experience. This year, we have created two campaigns the first campaign focused on changes we have made that improve our service for all students and with this second one focusing on final year students, ensuring they have the support and resources they need to succeed in their final months of study and beyond.
One of the key areas we have improved is the support for dissertation writing. We launched a new dissertation section in Canvas, complete with step-by-step videos and a template document to help students create their dissertation documents. This resource covers all topics related to word processing a dissertation, making it easier for students to navigate the complexities of academic writing. There is also the improved dissertation section in UniDesk where you can make an appointment for a one-to-one appointment with a librarian, access past dissertations, get materials from other libraries, or get a card to study in other academic libraries plus much more.

We have made significant improvements to our library and IT services based on student suggestions. For instance, during Dissertation Week (10-14 February), we are offering a series of workshops on finding library resources, using newspaper databases, APA, Harvard and Chicago referencing, also a session on how to use RefWorks. These sessions were designed to equip students with the skills they need to excel in their research.

We understand the importance of preparing students for life after graduation. We have a drop in session on Tuesday, 11th February from 10am – noon in the atrium, where students can find out about the Jisc discovery tool, and how they can use this tool to do a self-assessment of their digital skills. They can then use the training materials within the tool or LinkedInLearning to improve their digital skills, and build confidence. Having digital skills are a great benefit for studying but have an even greater impact on future employability.
We are proud of the steps we have taken to enhance the student experience for our final year students. By listening to your feedback and making meaningful changes, we aim to create a supportive and engaging environment that helps you succeed. Thank you for your valuable input, and we look forward to continuing to improve our services based on your suggestions.
What more could we want than to see fantastic pictures of our students on social media clutching their printed dissertations with the beautiful Airthrey loch in the back ground, and knowing that we were there to support students when needed.
