Goodbye Historical Texts, Hello EEBO and ECCO

At the end of July, JISC ended its support for the Historical Texts database. I am happy to report that we continue to have access to much of the content of Historical Texts in two new subscriptions:

Early English Books Online (EEBO)

Provided by Proquest, EEBO includes digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere up to 1700.

Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO)

Provided by Gale, ECCO includes the full text of books, pamphlets and broadsides printed between 1701 and 1800. It includes all works published or printed in Britain, Ireland, territories under British colonial rule, and the United States.

Both databases are now available from the A-Z List of Online Resources. Eventually we hope that some cross-searching of the databases will be possible, but for the time being you will need to search both databases separately if you are interested in both time periods.

If you have any questions about searching these resources, please get in touch at libinfo@stir.ac.uk
