Information Services and Student Learning Services offer support to students at every stage of your dissertation. During #StirDisserationWeek we will be highlighting the support and resources available to you.

Library and IT Support

Finding Resources

Struggling to find articles and books on your dissertation topic? Our Librarians are here to help you find resources for your dissertation research. See our Dissertation Support section in LibGuides. If you are struggling to find resources for your dissertation, request an appointment with your Librarian

Sometimes the library will not have all the materials you need for your dissertation. You should still be able to access everything you need by using our Document Delivery Service

Watch our Finding Resources for your Dissertation workshop.

Shut Up and Write

Get your writing done with our Shut up and Write events. For those new to the idea, Shut Up and Write is a global movement that aims to get people to show up and focus on their writing, whatever that happens to be. The idea is that by coming together with others we can work ‘alone together’ and draw on the motivation that comes from the collective energy of lots of people committing to work intensely for a dedicated time.

Shut Up and Write sessions are available to dissertation students and offer a dedicated space in the Library Training and Study Suite on level 3 in the library. Book a place at one of our Shut Up and Write sessions

Referencing

See our guides on referencing and referencing software in UniDesk Self Service. If you missed one of our workshops on referencing visit the Stirling Essentials – Study Skills SharePoint site to view a recording of one of our sessions. If you need help with referencing, request an appointment with your Librarian.

Word Formatting your Dissertation

Dreading the Word formatting part of your dissertation? See our FAQ which includes help, training, and a template document to drop your text into. Download a pre-formatted Word template for your dissertation.

We also run dissertation support sessions for students looking for help formatting their dissertations in Word. Visit the Stirling Essentials – Study Skills SharePoint site to view a recording of one of our sessions

Printing and Binding your Dissertation

If you are required to submit a hard copy of your dissertation (please double-check with your department first) you will be required to print on a higher-quality dissertation paper. We have two student printers, located in the Cottrell print suite 2A18, loaded with higher-quality paper for printing dissertations.

For more information on how to send your dissertation to these printers and details on the cost please see our section on printing your dissertation in UniDesk Self Service.

Graphics and Print Services also offer a dissertation (soft) binding service. See our section on binding your dissertation in UniDesk Self Service for all the details.

Don’t forget to have a look at our dissertation support pages in UniDesk Self-Service for all things dissertation-related.

Student Learning Services Support

Student Learning Services (SLS) are available for email and virtual tutorials. If you have any questions about the structure, writing, referencing, or editing of your dissertation please do get in touch via email at sls@stir.ac.uk to book a slot.
