Stirling has joined the MDPI publisher’s free Institutional Open Access Program. The Program is designed to simplify the administrative processes and reduce overheads surrounding the payment of APCs (Article Processing Charges) for Open Access publishing.
This will mean that in place of MDPI’s APC invoices being sent to Stirling authors, we will use a “central payment” option with invoices being sent directly to the Library. The Library will have access to a Dashboard of information on Stirling’s manuscripts and invoices giving the Library more control over the APC payment process.
We’re also pleased that as a member of the Program, Stirling’s corresponding authors will receive a 10% discount on the APCs for any paper they publish in an MDPI journal. (The discount cannot be combined with other discounts). When a paper is submitted to MDPI it is automatically matched to the University of Stirling based on the email address used and authors will be asked to confirm the institution choice. If the paper is accepted, the discount will then be automatically applied.
For help with paying for Open Access publishing charges you can apply to the University’s APC Fund: in the University Portal, in the ‘I Want to..’ panel (bottom right), select ‘Apply for APC funding’.
MDPI journals are a popular publication outlet with many of our authors. The Program will cover all MDPI journal titles, for example:
International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health | Animals |
Remote Sensing | Viruses |
Sustainability | Pathogens |
Nutrients | Antibiotics |
Entropy | Geosciences |
Symmetry | Water |
Journal of Clinical Medicine | Marine Drugs |
The University is a member of a number of publisher agreements supporting the move to greater open access for our research, in cost efficient ways – see our Publisher Memberships and Transformative Arrangements page.
