During the current exam period we want to highlight a couple of things to help you while working on assessments online:
- Mac users are advised that they should access Canvas using Firefox or Chrome rather than the Safari browser. This is because of problems that have been identified with the browser that limits Canvas functionality. This is especially important for those taking online exams because of problems the Safari browser has with assessment tools in Canvas.
- If you require technical support while sitting an online exam the Information Centre is open from 09.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday and 10.00-17.00 Saturday and Sunday and should be your first point of contact. You can contact the Information Centre via the Unidesk Self-service, which is linked to from the University portal, or via email at information.centre@stir.ac.uk. Calls made during normal working hours (09.00-17.00 Monday to Friday) will be dealt with as quickly as possible. Calls made outside of these times may be logged and passed on to the relevant team if the assistant on duty is unable to help.
Information Services will only be able to help with enquiries over which we have some control (such as assignment settings or system issues) and may not be able to assist with local problems, such as connectivity issues. Any problems that we are unable to resolve and that you feel have affected your performance should be communicated to the Faculty. The University operates a ‘no detriment’ policy to cover the current circumstances – for more details see COVID-19 (coronavirus) FAQs for students on assessment and exams.
