Libraries Week takes place between the 8–13 October to celebrate the nation’s much-loved libraries.
This year, with a focus on wellbeing, libraries across the country will showcase how they bring communities together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity and support people with their mental health.
Join us to celebrate our library and our newly opened Wellbeing Space.
Here’s our plan for Libraries Week:
Fiction Book Display
Did you know we have fiction books in the Library? Pop in to see our book display and borrow a fiction book. See The Reading Agency’s article on reading for pleasure and building empathy and improving wellbeing.
Colour Me Happy Glass Board
Colour yourself happy by picking up one of our colouring sheets. We have teamed up with Scottish Illustrator and pioneer of the adult colouring book trend, Johanna Basford. Colouring sheets will be available from the Information Centre, the Wellbeing Space and the next to the book display on Level 2 in the Library. Please add your colourful creations to our Colour Me Happy Glass board. See the Guardian’s article on colouring books for adults and the benefits to mental health.
Jar of Smiles (positive thinking in a box)
Please add or take a motivational quote from our Jar (box) of Smiles in the Library Wellbeing Space.
