Upgrade to student filestore and introducing Box

On Tuesday 23rd February (during the Reading Week),  Information Services will be undertaking an upgrade to the servers that host student network file store (home folders).

The upgrade will make the service more resilient and will be undertaken between 6-7:30 on Tuesday morning to inconvenience as few people as possible.

All existing files will be safely transferred onto the new filestore and will be accessible in the same way as before.

Apart from a more resilient service, the advantages of the upgrade include a nominal size increase to 1GB.  It will also be easier for you to see how much space is left in your own home folder.

This upgrade is being undertaken alongside the launch to students of UNLIMITED cloud file storage via Box.  Box is easily accessible on any device and is great for collaborative work such as group projects.  Login to Box via the university portal (link on left hand side of portal home page). There is lots of info about Box on our web site:   http://www.stir.ac.uk/newtech/box/

If you have any questions about the student filestore upgrade or about using Box, please contact the Information Centre (information.centre@stir.ac.uk)
