New multi-media resources

Two new multi-media collections have recently become available: The British Pathé Collection and the London Broadcasting Company / Independent Radio News Audio Archive.

The British Pathé Collection contains 85,000 historic films which cover the period 1896-1976. The collection is varied, but is particularly strong in its coverage of the First and Second World Wars. This is a fascinating resource for anyone interested in recent history. Be warned, you could spend hours watching videos on topics as diverse as ‘The World’s first mobile phone (1922)’ or ‘Fred Perry wins Wimbledon (1934)’.

The London Broadcasting Company / Independent Radio News Audio Archive, is part of MediaHub, which is available on the A-Z list of online resources. This collection includes over 4000 hours of news bulletins, documentaries and phone-ins from British commercial radio stations from 1973 to the mid 1990s. It is a very useful resource for anyone studying or researching British media or social history during this period. To restrict your search to clips just from this collection first search across the whole of MediaHub, then use the filters on the left hand side of the results screen and select London Broadcasting Company / Independent Radio News from under the heading “By Collection Name”.
