Staff: donate your old desktop printer to charity

SEND YOUR OLD DESKTOP PRINTER TO CHARITY BEFORE IT RUNS OUT OF TONER/INK

Now that the staff print system has been successfully rolled out across the university, you may have been wondering what to do with your old desktop printer.

The Staff Print Project Board has agreed to a one-time drive of collecting printers for charity. Since most printers will be given up at the end of the financial year, or when their toner runs out, we thought that staff might wish to donate printers to a good cause while they could and while the printer had spare ink or toner.

The charity that we have lined up is Tools with a Mission or TWAM, see  http://www.twam.co.uk/.  Tools with a Mission enables people to earn a living and to support themselves.  TWAM started twenty seven years ago, and provides this help by collecting and refurbishing tools and equipment no longer required in the UK and sending them overseas.  The last printers that TWAM had were shipped to Africa.

Any printers passed on must be in working order and must have toner or ink in them.

To start the process get approval from your line manager and then complete the special Facilities request form for printers for charity, which can be found on http://www.stir.ac.uk/is/staff/it/printcopy/ under the tab, ‘Disposal of old printers’,  and email it to the Portering Team Leader:  james.mcadam@stir.ac.uk

The deadline for getting the forms in will be 3 December and collection of the printers needs to be done by mid-December to allow time for the collection and identification the printers and to provide a list to the charity.
