Exam Time in the Library – Autumn 2025

As exams approach, the library becomes an essential resource for students seeking a productive study environment. Here’s everything you need to know about using the library during this crucial time.

Somewhere to study

Starting Monday, 24th November, Level 3 will join Level 4 as a silent study zone, providing ample quiet space for focused study sessions.

Level 2 provides open group study areas available on a walk-up basis for collaborative work. Bookable group study rooms are also located on Levels 3 and 4 and should be reserved in advance.

The Library Study Zone within Campus Central is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It contains a variety of different types of study furniture including group study facilities, study desks and benches. There are also printing facilities in the area.

Additional study spaces are available across campus. For details, see student room booking guidance.

PCs and laptops

The library provides all-in-one PCs on Levels 3 and 4, and docking monitors on Level 2. If you don’t have your own device, you can borrow a laptop from the self-service cabinet. Find out more about borrowing laptops.

Looking after yourself

University life can be stressful, especially during exams. To help you relax and stay productive, the library offers a Wellbeing Space for mindfulness, relaxation, and browsing wellbeing resources. It features comfy seating, cushions, and beautiful campus views.

Take a break with our library jigsaw, LEGO or participate in our book swap. Stay hydrated with water fountains in the library. If you’re not on campus, visit our Virtual Library Wellbeing Space to download colouring sheets or complete virtual jigsaws.

Consider exploring the wellbeing courses available on LinkedIn Learning to enhance your mental and physical health. Additionally, you can participate in LinkedIn Learning’s Mindful Moments Learner Challenge to cultivate mindfulness and improve your overall wellbeing. For more suggestions and information on mindfulness moments, take a look at our blog post.

Looking out for each other

The Library gets busy during exam periods and everyone may feel a little stressed. Here are three key tips to help maintain a positive environment:

  • Be silent in silent areas and use group study rooms or the first floor for conversations.
  • Clear up any rubbish and use recycling bins before you leave.
  • Don’t hog desks by leaving your belongings behind.

If you’re disturbed by noise, please email libraryreception@stir.ac.uk between 8am and midnight Monday to Friday and 10am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday with your location, and we’ll assist you. You can also visit the library reception desk for assistance.

We wish all our students the best of luck with their exams!
