Every year, the University of Stirling invites students to take part in the Jisc Digital Experience Insights Survey—a national initiative designed to understand how you use technology in your studies, how it supports your learning, and what digital skills you’re developing along the way.

This post will concentrate on the feedback we received about students not knowing where to get help, and what we can do to make the student experience better.

Your guide to getting help on Campus: All the services you need to know

University life is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. Whether you need academic support, career advice, accommodation help, or just someone to talk to, there’s a wide range of services available on campus to make sure you thrive. Here’s a comprehensive guide to where you can find help.


1. Library and IT Services

The Library and Information Services (IS) team is here to support your studies and keep you connected. They provide:

  • Library Resources: Access thousands of books, journals, and online databases.
  • IT Support: Help with Wi-Fi, printing, and troubleshooting university systems.
  • Study Spaces: Quiet zones, group rooms, and PC labs for every learning style and laptop loans to study on campus or in your own home.
  • Library Skills Training: Workshops on using tools like RefWorks, or workshops on different types of referencing You can visit the Library Help Desk or check the IS blog for updates and guides.

You can contact us using UniDesk Self-Service Portal from the left hand navigation on the portal and then click on ask the library or ask IT, students can get us on Livechat, or you can pop in to see us.


2. The Student Hub

The Student Hub is located on the ground floor of Campus Central, it offers face-to-face support for everything from enrolment and visas and general advice.

3. Student Learning Services (SLS) – Boost your academic skills

SLS runs workshops and one-to-one sessions to help you succeed in your studies.

4. The Students’ Union – representation and community

The University of Stirling Students Union goal is to make your life at Stirling the best it can possibly be.

Their advice team is here to help – from academic issues to housing or money. Get in touch.


5. Careers Service – plan your future

the Careers Service gives you the support and advice you need to plan your career, develop your employability or think about further study.

Not everyone finds it easy to plan for their future career. If you’re not sure what to do, the careers team can help.

  • CV and application support.
  • Workshops on part-time work and graduate careers.
  • Access to TARGETconnect for job listings and events. International students can attend dedicated sessions on employment rights and opportunities.

6. Accommodation Services – Your home away from home

Accommodation Services ensure you have a safe and comfortable living environment. You can get support when you need it. Our friendly Accommodation Operations Assistants run residences on a day-to-day basis and can be found at university-managed residences’ reception desks. They are generally your first point of contact if you have any problems or issues. The AOA team provides cover to all residences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

7. Campus Security – Safety first

SafeZone is a free app-based system for students and staff that enhances their personal safety.

SafeZone extends the reach of campus safety and security, to cater for the real time needs of the people who use campus every day. It provides a quick and easy way for users to alert Security Services, when help or assistance is needed.
