We are thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of our Love Letters to the Library campaign! Your heartfelt messages have truly touched our hearts and reaffirmed the importance of our library and IT Services to the University community. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who took the time to share their love and appreciation for the library and its staff.
Here are some of the wonderful messages we received:
- “You guys are great! I travel here from Glasgow every day to this sanctuary!”
- “Happy Valentines day ! I just wanted to say that for studying, I absolutely love the library! When I am here, I can just study, as opposed to the other study areas around campus where I find it more difficult to stay focused. I think that it’s brilliant that the library is open until midnight during the week as well. Thank you for this. It’s a brilliant study space! It’s been really helpful.”
- “The lovely man at Library reception gave me his blue ballpoint pen because the shop didn’t have any. I hope he has a lovely Valentine’s!”
- “The staff at lending enquiries are always so lovely. Little interactions with them make my day. I think it’s so cute that there are little blankets to borrow in the library. Happy Valentine’s Day”
- “Dear Library and IT staff, I genuinely hope that you have a nice Valentine’s Day, filled with love, warmth, and lots of love. We appreciate your hard work to make this library comfortable for everyone. Hopefully, that doesn’t go unsaid. Have a lovely Valentine’s Day.”
- “The energy and environment in the library are wonderful, especially in the wee hours. It feels like the people who work here genuinely care! Happy Valentine’s Day”
- “To Library and IT staff, Thank you for your support and kindness!”
- “To Library and IT staff, Thank you for your support and kindness! You go above and beyond to make us all smile. Hope you know that your presence makes this University better.”
We only had 3 letters which were on the whole Love letters, but with a few suggestions that we could us to improve.
- “My dear library, You are amazing, and I love you so much. You always make me feel like I am warm. I love everything about you except 1 thing which gives me doubt in our love. Your Wi-Fi is just not so good. It has been better over the last 3 years, but needs improvement.”
- “I love the quiet space and opportunity for IT support but, today someone used the library as his “Office” (I.e. making lengthy phone calls within the quiet study area). Can the “quiet” please be more enforced.”
- “Dear Library, I love how you made this a place that is ideal for getting work done and studying, but also include activities as a brain break. I especially appreciate the puzzles, which my friends and I frequently during our free time! (However, we would greatly appreciate if you changed the puzzle because the starry night one is too difficult and actively stresses me out…) Thank you so much and I will see you again soon. Avid Library User.”
In response to the question about Wi-Fi, if you are having an issue with this, please come to the Information Centre during 9-5 Monday to Friday with your devices and we can check to see if there is a simple resolution to the issues you are having.
For the student who had the issue with someone working in the quiet area, please let us know as soon as it happens and we will fix this. You can either email library@stir.ac.uk or pop down to Library reception and let us know.
And for the final request about the jigsaw, I think we will have to leave this one out for now as I think a number of people are determined to get it finished. However, when we have another table free we can start putting out some of our other jigsaw puzzles.
There were also 2 letters that people had taken a little bit more care over. a neatly folded letter and an hear shaped Origami letter ❤️

Your kind words and suggestions have made this campaign a resounding success, and we are grateful for the love and support from our library patrons. We are committed to continuing our efforts to make the library a welcoming and comfortable place for everyone.
Thank you once again for your participation and for making this Valentine’s Day truly special for Information Services.
