Library and IT suggestion scheme Autumn 2024

Your opinion matters, We welcome and encourage you to let us know how you can improve your library and IT experience at Stirling. With your valuable input, we can continue to provide the best possible service for you.

In this blog post we will feedback some of the suggestions and our responses that we have had over the last semester.

Longer library opening hours over the weekend please.

Unfortunately, longer opening hours are not possible with our current staffing levels.

Can you provide boiling water on each floor?

Unfortunately, we currently are unable to provide hot water on each floor, but there is a free hot water tap to the left of Scran in the atrium just outside the library, they also have a microwave for student use.

Can we get motivational quotes for PG students writing their dissertations.

This was a great suggestion, we have been running a series of Motivational screens on the digital signage in the library.

Have a search function at the top of every library webpage

We discussed this request with the University web team, and decided that we could update one page with a link directly to the library catalogue. https://stir.ac.uk/a5u but did you know that you can also access LibrarySearch direct from the left-hand navigation on the portal?

More plugs near the couches if possible, Oh and snacks as well.

We managed to source on extra sofa section with plugs and sited this between 2 sofas, and directed students to use the floor boxes that are either behind or to the side of the other sofas. For the snack part of the question we suggested that they join us for our weekly silent book club as we provide yummy snacks for this.

The water cooler on level 2 is very noisy.

This was good to know as staff are not generally around the water cooler that much. We reported this and a technician visited and resolved the issue.

Get the University Squirrel to promote use of the library

Unfortunately, we contacted the Squirrel’s line manager and we weren’t able to book him, he is such a celeb and had been making quite a few personal appearance’s for graduation and various festive events. We have asked his boss if we can get him to visit in Spring Semester. Fingers crossed.

Can we get a dedicated space in the library fitted with natural light bulbs as this would help neurodiverse students.

This is not something that we can answer at the moment, but we will take this suggestion forward to see if this is something that we could do.

We would like to thank everyone who provided this valuable feedback. We truly appreciate the time and effort that our students have taken to share their thoughts with us. These insights are incredibly important and will help us to better support students in their studies. By understanding their needs and concerns, we can make improvements that will enhance their learning experience. We are committed to providing students with the best possible support and resources, and their feedback is essential in helping us achieve this goal. We thank them once again for their contributions.
